Psychologist and visual imagery expert, Dr. Deepika Chopra, known as the The Optimism Doctor®, discusses her book "The Power of Real Optimism: A Practical, Science-Based Guide to Staying Resilient, Curious, and Open Even When Life Is Hard," which shows us how to build the kind of optimism that can actually withstand real life.
Optimism isn’t about pretending everything is fine. It’s about staying open and flexible—especially when it’s not. Dr. Chopra offers a radically different definition: optimism as a science, a skill, and a psychological muscle we can strengthen. Drawing from over a decade immersed in the science of resilience, emotional well-being, and cognitive psychology, the book is a toolkit for navigating the chaos, uncertainty, and nuance of being human—without losing yourself to it.

Elizabeth Gilbert was once an "unpublished diner waitress," devastated by rejection letters. And yet, in the wake of the success of 'Eat, Pray, Love,' she found herself identifying strongly with her former self. With beautiful insight, Gilbert reflects on why success can be as disorienting as failure and offers a simple -- though hard -- way to carry on, regardless of outcomes.

What if enlightenment is not a permanent state, but a habit we regularly return to? Andrew Newberg, MD, Robert Waldinger, MD, and Jim Al-Khalili, PhD, explore how moments of awe, unity, and insight can alter the brain and reshape our sense of reality. From neuroscience to Zen practice to the limits of scientific knowledge, they argue that enlightenment may be less about arriving somewhere and more about how we act once we feel connected.

Have you ever wanted to capture all the energy produced by an entire star? To do that you'd need to take on the most difficult science and engineering project humanity can currently imagine: building a Dyson Sphere. If you succeed, you might even get our civilization to a Type II on the Kardashev Scale.
