You have probably seen the videos. "This Boring Website Earns $6M/Year” "Build this boring tool and retire." We kept seeing them, so we decided to break down what is actually going on. Spoiler: it is not the calculator making the money. A basic mortgage calculator or BMI tool is one of the most saturated things you can possibly build. There are thousands of them already, most attached to sites with far more authority than a brand new domain, and yours is not going to rank for anything competitive on its own. So where does the money actually come from? Affiliate links. When you sign up for hosting through one of their referral links, they earn a commission, sometimes a big one. The calculator is just the hook. The real product being sold is the dream, and the real revenue is the affiliate payout when you click through and buy hosting. That is not necessarily a bad thing.
