This audio-only session talks about storytelling, how stories are one of the oldest and most concrete ways for our brains to ingest new information, and how EVERY communication—even a one-line DM—can tell a story. I discuss how to let go of your own context to focus on the context of your reader, and what storytelling can do to make EVERY kind of communication—technical, fiction, or otherwise—better and more compelling.
In which we discuss the business of writing, including working with a commercial publisher and self-publishing, as well as a bit on the market for technical short-form content in the commercial world.

I discuss my book outlining method, which leads directly to my writing process and is the primary reason I'm able to write quickly! We do a live outlining session to illustrate the process, and look at how I apply the same basic process to both tech and fiction.

Superstar Chrissy LeMaire invited me to guest on her Twitch channel. She's been slogging her way through writing a tech book, and wondered how I manage to be such a prolific writer, and so we talked about it. For like two hours, complete with chat room questions. This is totally unstructured, and there's a lot that will surprise you: how I block and outline stories, how the human brain learns, how I wrote 6,000 words of copy before I even got on the stream, and how you mainly just need to accept certain universal realities and get on with your writing. It's a long listen, but I promise it's worth it.
