I’m still loving the Snapmaker U1 toolchanger. With the factory enclosure still not available, I decided to test two community designs, each with a different approach and consequently varying strengths and weaknesses. In this video, I show you how to print, assemble and fit each one, and finish by testing how well they retain heat for ASA printing.

Makera is back with their newest desktop CNC, the smaller and cheaper Carvera Z1. In this video, I compare the various models, test the performance and examine the whole software ecosystem to see what works well and what still needs development. While the performance is sound, there are some aspects behind in development that may wish to consider before backing this project.
This product was provided free of charge by Makera for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own and the machine was tested in accordance with my review policy: https://teachingtechyt.github.io/reviewpolicy.html

I’ve spent a lot of time and money trying to make recycled waste 3D prints back into useful objects such as filament. This particular saga has been going on for about three years, unfortunately without a successful outcome. In this video I tell my experience with the ReDeTec Protocycler+ filament extruder.
ReDeTec initially contacted me to see if I was interested in their machine. We negotiated a 25% discount on the purchase price and free freight to Australia. Therefore this cost me $2,250 USD. There was also a stipulation that I could not have an affiliate account, which never concerned me.
My interactions with Zoltan and Dennon were positive, but the lack of response from the support team is nothing but unacceptable. Assuming the machine is not broken, I think it might be possible to achieve my goal of making new filament from a combination of virgin pellets and shredded waste prints. This would however, require guidance from ReDeTec on the manual extrusion process to suit my particular application. They won’t even respond to my emails for the initial problem, so I can’t get any further with that.

Another Bambu Lab release, this time the flagship H2C. This one has something significantly innovative, the Vortek nozzle changing system. In this video, I show how it works and point out the strengths, as well as the weaknesses associated with the overall concept.
There are some issues that may be hard to get around depending on your preferences, but if you are upgrading from an earlier Bambu Lab AMS system this is still a step forward in every way.
This printer was received free of charge for testing and comparison. I signed an embargo to not discuss the printer until the release date. As always, there were no other restrictions. This machine was tested in accordance with my review policy and all opinions expressed are my own.

I own a five tool Prusa XL, which is now working pretty well. For many people though, this 3D printer is just too expensive. In this series, we are attempting to take a StealthChanger toolchanger mod intended for the Voron 2.4, and adapt it to the Sovol SV08 Voron clone. In this episode, I adapt the sexball probe for automatic tool offset calibration, refine the umbilical setup and wire up and configure the filament runout sensors.
I think functionally, this project is now finished. The next job is to test and refine, then begin the extensive documentation that will be required. Thanks for your patience!
This printer and the additional toolheads were received free of charge from Sovol for the purposes of making this series. Everything else I’ve paid for myself.

I own a five tool Prusa XL, which is now working pretty well. For many people though, this 3D printer is just too expensive. In this series, we are attempting to take a StealthChanger toolchanger mod intended for the Voron 2.4, and adapt it to the Sovol SV08 Voron clone. In this episode, with the help of the DraftShift team, I struggle through the installation and calibration of the Klipper Toolchanger plugin, adapting it to suit the SV08. Finally, tool changes are happening, along with multi tool prints.
This printer and the additional toolheads were received free of charge from Sovol for the purposes of making this series. Everything else I’ve paid for myself.

I’ve come this far, so that’s all the justification I need to spend more money on the XL to get it where I want it. In this video, I fit some community upgrades, primarily the EnXLosure. This design is only a quarter the price of the Prusa enclosure and looks much nicer in my opinion.

Almost no one factors in shrinkage of plastic when 3D printing. Inspired by a clever community enclosure for the Prusa XL, this video will guide you through how to measure how much shrinkage you have, and how to add compensation for this in your slicer of choice.

More XL reliability problems with no confidence they could be resolved, so I accepted Prusa’s offer to swap my old XL with a brand new one. In this video, we take the opportunity to see what the experience is like for new customers of the XL. Have Prusa smoothed out the process, and how does the XL compare to the flagship printers from Creality and Bambu Lab.
There is also an update on the SV08 toolchanger project too.

Another Bambu Lab targeted upgrade to add functionality to older printers that matches the H2D. In this video, I test the Tetras from Eibos, an upgrade for the original AMS that adds filament drying. This system operates independently to the AMS, which means there are no firmware or slicer alterations required. It can act as a standalone dryer, a dryer while printing, and an actively controlled storage mode.

Note: I have the remnants of a black eye from playing soccer. No stray elbows, just a header that was a little low on my forehead.
